Salad dressing meltdown

Ok, today I was going to a friend's house for dinner and she asked me to bring some salad dressing, knowing of my stockpile. I must have 10 bottles or more. I realized about 3 minutes from her house that I FORGOT THE DRESSING. In my irrational-must-not-actually-pay-for-dressing moment, I pulled into the grocery store parking lot, merely to turn around. (I was willing to drive 15 minutes to get the dressing from home versus actually pay for salad dressing WITHOUT a coupon). My husband looked at me like I was crazy and said to just go in and buy it.

I really thought I was going to have a melt down. So sad. Over $2--I'd probably spend 1/2 that in gas (not really cause I'm actually calculating this in my head) not to mention we were already 30 min late!! This is serious. Knowing I had 10+ bottles of dressing I had paid nothing for made $2.87 seem extravagant. After staring at the shelves in disbelief I finally settled for a store brand for about $1.50.

The story has a happy ending however. They didn't really need the dressing after all and I will return it as soon as I get back to a Lowe's. Close call....Only a couponer can really understand the ridiculousness of this situation!

I had to laugh--I'm officially obsessed with coupons!

Michael's clearance bins

My sister and I went into Michael's today after getting a hold of the largest fountain soda I have ever seen to share....64ounces...whoa, it literally took 2 hands to drink. We nestled it into the baby seat of the cart and happily sipped along as we shopped.

Anyways they have a ton of stuff on clearance. Recipe boxes, stationary items like cards, pads of paper, gift notebooks, spatulas, etc....Early Christmas and wedding gift ideas

I got:
2 water bottles, screw cap, wide mouth for $1.47 a piece
6 really cute recipe boxes for .70 each (though they had some for .47 each)
4 candles in cute colorful tins .70 each

The cashier said this is the last week they are running the huge clearance sale to make way for Christmas stuff.

Last minute pasta salad

I had a chicken thigh and leg in the crockpot cooking away for the lunch I planned for my husband. But he called mid-morning to see if I could have lunch for him as well as 2 friends. Here's how I stretched 2 peices of meat to feed lunch for 4 at the last minute....

Last Minute Pasta Salad

Cooked chicken (I used a leg quarter)
pasta (I used spiral)
1-2 zucchini
1 onion
1-2 tomatoe
olive oil
handful basil
italian dressing
salt and pepper to taste

Chop zucchini, onion, tomatoe and basil. Cook onion, when onion is about halfway cooked at zucchini. Cook pasta until done while vegetables are cooking. While pasta is cooking chop chicken, tomatoe and basil. Turn heat off veggies when the zucchini is cooked but still crisp. Drain pasta when done. In a large bowl combine pasta, veggies, chicken and basil. Add italian dressing (I'd say I use about a 1/2 bottle, but depends on how you like it) and salt and pepper to taste.

It was quite tasty and a blessing to hand something other than sandwiches for him and his friends.

cheesy salsa mini meatloaves

My mom, sister and her boyfriend joined my husband and I on Tuesday night for dinner. I tried this recipe for the first time and it was so delicious!
Here are the ingredients:
What you Need:

1 lb ground beef
1/2 c. finely chopped onions
1 egg
1/2 c. bread crumbs
1 1/2 shredded cheese, divided
1 c. salsa, divided

Mix first four ingredients together with 1 c. cheese and 1/2 c. salsa:

Heat oven: 400 degree F. Press evenly into greased muffin pan. Use back of spoon to make indentation in center of each. Bake 20-25 min until meatloaves are done. Top with remaining salsa and cheese; bake 3 min until cheese is melted.

I also made garlic mashed potatoes. My sister brought a dish too.

I estimate the meal cost about $2.89 to feed 4 + 1 vegetarian, + leftovers for 1 lunch and a dinner side dish.

Beef: .50

onion: .08

egg: .07

bread crumbs: .05 (maybe, not even?)

cheese: .64

salsa: free

potatoes: $1.00

milk/butter: .50

garlic: .05 (maybe)

This was delicious, everyone (except the vegetarian) loved the meatloaves and my mom even asked for the recipe!
these were leftover--look much tastier first baked in the pan!

CVS trip 8/17

I love CVS! I just took couponing to the "next" level and I'm loving it! It all seemed too complicated for me at first...but this purchase is a result of "rolling" ECBs... It takes some time to plan and calculate, but it is definately worth it! I paid $4.29 for all this, and 2 rolls of toilet paper. I forgot to put in the photo (also one more Sobe--husband took it for lunch today =) Basically I paid for the toilet paper (which I needed anyways and the taxes) This is $107.03 worth of products! Plus I have $10 ECBs to use on next order...

8 Sobe drinks
2 Loreal facial cleansers
2 Loreal wrinkle cream
1 Package of notebook paper
2 Packages of red papermate pens
1 pair of Phillips headphones

Yardsale preparations

Look at how cute this little yardsale flyer is! Who wouldn't want to come to a yardsale with a flyer like this? Anyways it makes me happy....

The scan really doesn't do it justice....

Making last minute preparations, bought bottled water to sell (it is so hot!) still have things to price and things to organize...signs to make, oh and I need to go get change (I was just at the bank and forgot!)

Our sweet friend Hannah is staying the night to help us bright and early tomorrow morning. Praying for dry skies and monetary success! There is a 40 % chance of scattered thunderstorms.

Frugal Floral Fun

My friend Erin brought me the wilting centerpiece from her sister's wedding we all attended this past Saturday. Sandy took half and out of the remaining half I made a beautiful bouquet for our frugal casa...

Not too bad for flowers that sat in the trunk of her car for a few days in the July heat...

Getting started

Ok, I've thought and thought, and put it off and put it off, but I finally found a blog name that hadn't already been taken, and so noooowwww....I'm ready to get started. I want to write this blog for the purpose of sharing all the frugal adventures, as well as fun tidbits from my life that I encounter with friends, family and the web at large in one concise place. I have been away from the habit of writing for quite awhile, but I'm excited for this new adventure. Thanks for sharing it with me....
